Slow Computer Troubleshooting for Windows
Anybody who has ever owned a PC with Windows knows that, as great as computers have been for the advancement of society, they can get bogged down very easily. There are a number of reasons for why your Windows operating system might have slowed to a crawl but the good news is that in nearly all cases the solution is pretty easy and inexpensive. Consider these slow computer troubleshooting tips before you take your PC to a professional.
Fragmentation
One of the leading causes for a slow computer is fragments left behind from deleted files. Windows, for all its advances, still can be a bit cumbersome when it comes to deleting files and it will often leave portions of a file that must be manually removed. In most cases there will also be empty chunks of space sitting there doing nothing. In these cases, all you really need to fix the problem is a decent disk defragmenter software. Windows offers its own defragmenter so check your computer before you go out and buy a stand-alone product. If you find that the windows defragmenter doesn't fully take care of the job, make sure that the new software is compatible with your operating system.
Clogged Registry
Another major cause for slowdown is a clogged registry. Windows has what is known as a Windows Registry, where commands and prompts are found that allow applications to be efficiently run. The Registry can get cluttered fairly easily but again, thankfully, Windows offers its own Registry Editor option. Again, sometimes the problem is too big for the in-house program to handle and so it may again be necessary to seek out a third party piece of software that might clean up your registry more effectively. General Problems
Let's also not forget that sometimes the easiest explanation is the best. In many instances of slow computer troubleshooting, the reason is right in front of our faces but we fail to notice it. Do you have a bunch of applications running and a bunch of windows open? Do you have overly complicated wallpaper? Do you have a lot of large, advanced games installed on your computer? Sometimes a computer is slow simply because it is filled to capacity. Never rule out this possibility when troubleshooting for your PC.
Both the above functions can be performed using PC Health Advisor which is a utility software application manufactured by ParetoLogic. This program contains all the features needed to speed up your computer, as well as tips on how to increase computer speed. It contains a registry cleaner which will remove unwanted registry entries, a process manager to monitor the processes running on the system as well as many other useful features which can be used to optimize the operation of Windows systems.
